In late 2016 and early 2017, profitability deteriorated rapidly at Mexican budget airline Volaris (NYSE: VLRS)due to market disruptions caused by the U.S. presidential election. Fears about a crackdown on trade or immigration under President Trump led to a sharp drop in the Mexican peso and a downturn in travel demand.
