This year has been a real eye-opener for investors. After a market surge in 2017 that saw little in the way of volatility and almost lulled investors to sleep, volatility reared its head in a big way in February and March. Over just 13 calendar days between the end of January and beginning of February, the nearly 122-year-old Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI)shed more than 2,700 points and screamed it was headed into correction territory-- a drop of at least 10% from a recent high -- which is quicker than any other correction in decades.
