Netflix (briefly) tops Disney

For a few hours, Netflix was the world’s most valuable media company. The company’s market value skyrocketed past Disney’s and above $152 billion, CNBC reported. By the end of the week, however, Netflix was chilling at $151.8 billion — under Disney’s value of $152.2 billion. Nevertheless, Netflix is the best-performing stock in the S&P 500 thus far in 2018.

The advance underscores the high confidence investors have in the future of the streaming giant. The Hollywood Reporter pins Netflix’s success on the fact that it passed 125 million subscribers back in April and made $3.6 billion in the first quarter of the year.
